This came to an end in 62 A.D., for a very powerful earthquake, and then in 79 A.D., because of Mount Vesuvius eruption: a huge rain of ash and stones covered completely the ancient city, and Pompeii was buried under 20 feet of volcanic materials.<\/p>\n<p>The ancient city was accidentally discovered by the Neapolitan engineer Domenico Fontana in 1594, but the excavations began only in 1748, during Charles of Bourbon reign.<\/p>\n<p>Today Pompeii is one of the most visited archaeological sites in the world, and some excavations are still going on.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n<div   class='hr hr-default   avia-builder-el-8  el_after_av_textblock  el_before_av_textblock '><span class='hr-inner ' ><span class='hr-inner-style'><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><h2>Sorrento<\/h2>\n<p>About 30 miles south of Naples, it is a very famous tourist city, for its artistic and natural beauties. The town has probably Greek origins: it is a common belief that the name &#8220;Surrentum&#8221; comes from the Sirens, mythological marine creatures, half women, half fish, that charmed the sailor men with their singing, pushing them to shipwreck against the rocky cliffs of the Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>During the Imperial age, Sorrento was chosen as the summer residence by many emperors and roman aristocrats, for its weather. They built many mansions here, like the villa of Pollio Felice and Agrippa Postumo.<\/p>\n<p>The historical center shows the typical plan of the Roman streets; the inner side is surrounded by XVI century walls. There are many places that are worth a visit: the Cathedral (rebuilt in the XV century), Saint Francis of Assisi Church, and the Correale Museum (where you can find some Greek and Roman artifacts, and some porcelains from Capodimonte)<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n<div   class='hr hr-default   avia-builder-el-10  el_after_av_textblock  el_before_av_textblock '><span class='hr-inner ' ><span class='hr-inner-style'><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><h2>Positano<\/h2>\n<p>When you drive along the little coast road between Sorrento and Amalfi, you come into a little group of white and colored houses, seized into the rock, interposed by lemon groves and perfumed flowers, overlooking the blue sea. This is the beautiful natural and architectural environment where Positano was born. For its warm weather, and the beauty of the landscape, Positano has been a resort town since the Imperial Roman age.<\/p>\n<p>From the X to the XII century, it has been part of the Duchy of Amalfi.
